Group of farmers
To enable teams to gather honest, constructive feedback on ideas in a safe and structured way.
Groups or individuals work on an idea they will present for group feedback – this means that either individuals or smaller groups work separately from the wider group.
Each group sends a “messenger” to share their idea with the wider group. The group withholds feedback while the messenger presents the idea.
The messenger turns around (or, if online, make sure they are listening but not seeing participants’ videos) while the group shares their honest feedback. Because the messenger can’t see or share non-verbal body language, members of the group will not be influenced by their physical reaction and are incentivized to be as honest as possible, allowing for respectful feedback to be delivered.
During this session the messenger can listen and take notes, but not to speak or respond to feedback.
Once the messenger has received the feedback, they go back to the group, share the feedback and adapt the proposition if needed. Once done, the messenger goes back to the main group and the feedback process is repeated.
The team can repeat a few times, until they have a proposal they can all get behind.
In the final step, once they have all agreed this is the final iteration, the group gives the messenger their opinions about what they liked in the project, thus finishing in a positive note.
