One-on-one

Goal

To understand the context and complexity of a problem and solve it or find a way forward.

Description

The 5 Whys is a problem-solving method used to quickly identify the root cause of an issue.

  • It involves asking “Why?” repeatedly (typically five times), rephrasing each question based on the previous answer, to dig deeper into the problem.

  • This method improves work quality and system reliability by addressing underlying causes rather than symptoms.

  • It helps break down complex problems into manageable sub-problems, leading to better decision-making.

  • The 5 Whys also provide insight into how complex systems function.
