Phases of the Innovation Cycle

Support to farmers

One-on-one

Goal

To help individuals and organizations define and communicate their purpose by starting with why they do what they do, before explaining how and what they do.

Description

The Golden Circle consists of three concentric circles: Why, How, and What.

  • At the core is Why—the purpose, cause, or belief that drives an organization.
  • The middle circle, How, describes the process or values that make the organization unique or set it apart.
  • The outer circle, What, refers to the actual products or services offered.

According to Simon Sinek, most organizations communicate from the outside in (What → How → Why), but the most inspiring and successful ones lead from the inside out—starting with Why. This method encourages purpose-driven communication, leadership, and innovation that resonate more deeply with audiences.
