Goal

To gather individual and collective insights.

Description

The Key Takeaway Tree is a highly visual, participatory method for capturing what participants have learned or found most valuable during a session, workshop, or meeting. It encourages everyone to reflect, share, and see the collective learning of the group.

Step-by-step:

  1. Draw a Large Tree: On a flipchart or whiteboard, sketch a big tree with a sturdy trunk and lots of branches. The tree represents the collective knowledge and growth of the group.

  2. Distribute “Leaves” or “Fruits”: Give each participant one or more cards shaped like leaves or fruits. These symbolize individual insights or “fruits of learning.”

  3. Individual Reflection: Ask everyone to write down their key takeaway(s) from the session—this could be a new insight, a practical tip, a question, or something that inspired them.

  4. Build the Tree: Participants come up and stick their leaves/fruits onto the tree. This can be done all at once or one by one, depending on the group size and time.
